Let's talk this Acacia Deal.
It looks like another company is making an assault on the Adult industry.
If any of you don't know by now, Acacia is trying to say that it owns the patent on any type of video streaming out there. They are looking to take another piece of the pie and the pie is YOUR pocket.
Now to me this seems like somebody saying they invented the hamburger and wants to get a royalty for every hamburger sold by everyone else for the past 6 years!
The big question that we need to ask is not if Acacias claims are legitimate or not but, why did they choose
the adult industry to start this assault?
I feel the answer is US, the webmasters and we have no one to blame but ourselves.
Acacia saw a chance and by damn if they didn't take it!
The internet and the Adult biz especially has been known to be a wide open and free market, and with that comes problems.
Webmasters in this business have been for a long time "lone wolves" and find it hard to agree on most anything.
On top of the Money this business generates the lack of any kind of ...I'll say it- webmaster UNION has made us a perfect target for this type of assault. I will also go as far to say that if something is not done this will not be the last one we see.
If webmasters can not get off their independent asses and start to agree on things and band together, this business will be taken apart piece by piece.
Our business has strived on independent thought and new ideas for a long time. This is what has made the internet what it is today. Many new ideas have been taken from our industry and it still leads the way for most every business out there in this market.
BUT and that is a BIG but, if what I have seen going on with this issue continues the way it is, Acacia won't have a market to get royalties from!
I'm telling you webmasters, you need to AGREE on something here and not just sit back and watch others try and fight this alone!
There is a quote that ..oh hell..someone once said that goes like this...United we stand, divided we fall !
I know it sounds corny but it's the plain fucking truth!
Get off your asses and get going if you want your livelyhoods to be around in a couple years.
